Friday Five Faves Posts

Friday Five Faves {#8}

So if you read my post on the book “Women Living Well” (check it out here), you will know that I’ve just started the book, but that I’m loving it already!

One of the things that the author, Courtney Joseph, addresses is spending time using technology.

I’ve really started to think about how we’re using technology in our house. I definitely need to cut back my time using technology of all sorts! Now that i don’t have my computer (see why here), I’m starting to understand more fully how much it was and is a part of my life. However, I realize that it’s not something we can escape completely, nor do we want to. It can be useful if we use it properly and make sure we put parameters on its use.

So…today’s five faves are about the things I really like about the way we use technology in our house (since we’re not fighting as much now that I’m coming to term with my predicament)!!

This remote is AWESOME. You can program 7 channels into the remote. It can also be programmed to turn on the TV. But the best part about it is that when it turns on the TV, it automatically turns it on to the channel programmed onto the #1 button. So when the kids turn on the TV, it doesn’t stay on whatever random channel it was on when the TV was turned off, but is on an already pre-approved channel. My kids love having this remote and they feel like they have a little freedom, but the content is totally controlled by me!

And at $10, it’s a total steal!

We have this Bible in both a hardback, and on my Kindle. This Bible was recommended to us by the leaders of our life group and I love it! It’s got vibrant colors and the way the stories are written are so engaging and pull Noah (who is almost 5) right in. Every story ends with how that particular story points to Jesus. It’s a little more than Aidan wants to sit still for, but sometimes I throw this in the rotation for Noah. Extra points, when we travel, we have their Bible without having to pack it!

This is an app that has proven to be so valuable that I have paid for the full membership. Ty and I can both be connected to the same calendar, make updates, share shopping lists, etc. very worth it! Plus, if you sign up for the full membership, you get some free stuff, too. :) I would’ve paid for it either way, but that was just a bonus!

All of these apps are well-used by my boys when they are on my phone. I really have only paid for two apps (Cozi is the other one, and that was the membership, not the app), and Aidan loves “FW Animals” (the one with the green background and the orange cat), so that is one of them. It’s improved their spelling immensely!

Last, but certainly not least…this! I’m loving doing this — blogging with all of you! I love what this little corner of the blog world is becoming! I am so enjoying hearing from you and I hope that you are enjoying hearing from me…you’re all changing my life so much, and I’m so excited to see what else is coming!

What are your favorite ways of using technology? Are you a technology junkie and need to cut back like me?

P.S. No one paid me for any reviews or anything…these are just my opinions!

Whew! We made it!

Hello again, Friday!

Today, the high here was 85 degrees so it’s kind of hard to acknowledge that it really is fall. Even when all my friends in Colorado are getting snow today — eek!!!

Okay, so…it’s fall, and I wanted to look at my five faves for fall decoration. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get some time to do one or two of them!!

1.

Can I be honest? I really don’t like carving pumpkins. There are some awesome alternatives! I like sweet instead of spooky (so disregard the white skull…).

How cute is this wreath on the door?! Maybe I need an “S”!

3.

This is a great fall-themed wedding table. Isn’t it so beautiful?

4.

These candles and the leaves look so cozy. And fall-like with no pumpkins! So it is possible?

Okay, if I’m being honest, I think that I like this black door the most about this picture, but I really like how all the fall colors complement it. Sometimes fall is so wrapped up in browns, and it’s nice to see that this black really pops!

I think I’ve already said this before, but I think the only thing I miss about Colorado weather is the fall. It’s so crisp and beautiful! There’s no such thing as changing leaves here, so it’s funny to see everyone down here with their fall “leaves”. Nevertheless, I’m excited that it’s here, albeit in its hard-to-notice way.

Is fall your favorite season? What’s your favorite way to decorate your pumpkins?

You guys, can you believe it?! It’s Friday again!

Wow, that flew by for me. The week was totally crazy. Again.

There’s no theme this week, just my five faves from this week!

Happy Friday again!

It was a crazy week, and I’m glad it’s almost the weekend!

So this morning, I was trying to find a specific e-card for a friend of mine while I was on Pinterest. It turned into about 30 minutes of laughter, and even a few pins. So without further ado…my “five fave” e-card pins from today!

Happy Friday!!!

Starting on Tuesday, my house will be taking the challenge Unprocessed October to eat unprocessed food as much as possible. We are taking the challenge through the blog Eating Rules (check the guide out here).

I’m so very much a rookie at this, so I will be stumbling my way through it for the month. BUT…I’m determined!

Part of raising Spartans means feeding them food that is the best for their bodies. We’ve made this switch for so many parts of our lives already, but we have a long way to go still. This October will hopefully help to launch us a big step closer to eating almost all real food. I started out using the blog 100 Days of Real Food (check her blog out here)  to guide me in the switch. I have found both of these websites to be so helpful in gaining some education and perspective about the foods that we eat.

SOOOOOO…….

Here are my Five Faves for this challenge!

1.

A favorite snack for my kids is what we call the “Funky Monkey.” It’s a graham cracker sandwich with peanut butter and banana. Now I can make these as a similar snack and can cut out the {super processed} graham crackers.

2.

These look refreshing! As long as the yogurt is whole fat, plain, and organic (and maybe sweetened with honey), these will be on the challenge! Too bad it’s almost time for strawberries to be out of season here! :(

3.

My friend Machelle recommended this recipe to me. She said she loved the addition of the oatmeal. Now I’ve gotta try it!

4.

These are from the 100 Days of Real Food recipe index.

I made these for my boys a few weeks ago (like 35 of them the size of the waffles in the picture…I tripled the batch) and they loved them! Noah likes blueberry waffles, so I added some blueberry puree to the second half of the batch. Put these in a freezer bag and pull them out and toast as needed! Top with some 100% maple syrup, and these are DELICIOUS!

5.

Dinner is always a lot easier for me to make healthier for some reason. Maybe because I plan to make it. Lunch always sneaks up on me! I never know what to eat for lunch. Maybe if I could do something like this at the beginning of the week, or just a day or two in advance, it might keep me on track! Plus, I love a good salad!

I’m tired!

Anyone else tired? No? Just me?

Well today my five faves are all about resting and relaxing…so come hang out and just relax.

And then enjoy your weekend!

This is my favorite place on earth. Seriously — by far. So much so, that this is where Ty proposed to me!

I took this picture at the women’s conference at my church this weekend. It was definitely a time of recharging my batteries!

These Chinese lanterns capped off the first night.

Every woman wrote their hopes, fears, prayers…and then lit them and as a group sent them into the air. It was a sweet sight to see all these women watching their vulnerability float into the sky.Talk about freeing and refreshing!

4.

Seriously, this is the BEST place on earth for me — being goofy with my family.

Gosh, I could eat those kids.

Okay I’m starting something new on Fridays.

It’s the day that my kids aren’t in school, so we are using it as a fun day around here. No time to post!

So instead, I am going to post 5 of my favorite pins from my Pinterest.

So…here’s my first Friday’s Five Faves!
